Udupi: The DCIB sleuths arrested a person exchanging outdated Brazilian currency with Indian currency, on May 25.
The arrested has been identified as Imran (24) Son of Ahamed Kunhi, Riyaz Manzil, Handel House, Sampige Post, Puttige Village Mangaluru.
According to the police, Imran was exchanging outdated Brazilian currency “Banco Central Do Brasil” which are not in circulation, in Udupi. He sold 574 notes of 500 denomination and 92 notes of 100 denomination worth Rs 59.24 lakh by fooling people.
On May 25, on getting information, under the direction of SP Annamalai, Additional SP Santosh Kumar, DySP Udupi Chandrashekar, DCIB Inspector TR Jaishanker and his team raided the spot and arrested Imran while selling the currency. Police also seized the currency from his possession. Later he was handed over to the Udupi Town police station for further investigation.
A case has been registered in the Udupi Town police station.
