Udupi: The ‘Tapta Mudra Dharana’ ritual was held at the Shri Krishna Temple here, on July 27.
Shri Vidyavallbha Teertha Swamiji of Paryaya Kaniyoor Math stamped the images of ‘shankha’ (conch) and ‘chakra’ (wheel) on the chest and arms of the devotees.
Earlier, the seals of ‘shankha’ and ‘chakra’ were heated during the Sudarshana Homa conducted in the temple. Devotees formed long queues in front of the temple and waited for their turn to participate in the ritual.
The ‘chakra’ is stamped on the right arm, while the ‘shanka’ is stamped on the left. The symbols are also stamped on women.
Sri Rama Sene leader Pramod Muthalik also took part in the Tapta Mudra Dharana ritual in Krishna Math.
The seals are normally stamped on the stomach of little girls and boys who have not undergone the thread ceremony. Swamijis of all maths performed the ritual.
Religious heads from various parts of the state came to the temple town to take part in the ceremony. The ceremony is held on the day of Prathama Ekadashi or Sayani Ekadashi. It is believed that Mudra Dharana helps build resistance in the body against diseases.
“Mudra dharana helps to build resistances to diseases” say the religious heads. Is there any scientific evidence or any statistical evidence to prove such stone-age belief? if someone desires a free tattooing to look like Western jerks, he/she could have it without expecting immunity from diseases.
@sas – Religions thrive on the absence of any rational thinking and scientific evidence. Faith and logic are mutually exclusive. Question is – Why are we picking on ‘mudra dhaarana’ or ‘made snaana’ while showing shameless silence over ‘cartoon’ controversy? Well, we all know the answer. It’s very easy to be tough on some ‘braahmana’ or sanaathana sampradaayas as they practice peace in true sense unlike the religion of ‘peace’!!! smiles…
