Udupi Diocese holds Annual Eucharistic Procession with Devotion

Udupi: The annual Diocesan Eucharistic Procession organized on the feast of Christ the King at Milagres Cathedral Kallianpur evoked a devotional response from nearly three thousand Catholics representing 52 parishes of the Udupi Diocese on Sunday, 25 November.

The Eucharistic Mass was concelebrated at Mount Rosary Church Santhekatte Kallianpur by the Bishop of Udupi Diocese, Most Rev. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo along with Msgr Baptist Menezes Vicar General of the diocese, Fr Stany B Lobo Chancellor of the diocese, deanery heads Fr Denis D’Sa, Fr Valerian Mendonca, Fr Lawrence D’Souza and other priests of the Diocese.

The mass was followed by the adoration and the solemn Eucharistic Procession. The brass band led the procession followed by the Cross, candle bearers and the people holding lighted candles. The Bishop held the Blessed Sacrament that was rested on a pedestal fitted on a decorated vehicle. The procession moved through the Mount Rosary Church, Goretti Hospital, Ozanam House and entered the Milagres Cathedral premises.

Fr Royson Fernandes assistant parish priest of St John Evangelist Church Pangla read a passage from the Gospel. In his homily, Fr Royson highlighted the importance of the Eucharist and its evolution by citing a number of examples and events from both the Old and New Testaments. Fr Royston said that the Eucharist has great strength that nourishes the church in general and the individual faithful in particular.

The Bishop gave away the trophies to those parishes who had the highest total collection and highest per head collection on Mission Sunday. Shirva Parish received the trophy for maximum collection of Rs 7,25,000, followed by Moodubelle Parish with Rs 7,20,000, whereas Udupi Parish secured the third position with Rs 6,15,000 collection.

Among the parishes that had the maximum per head collection were: Kuntalnagar parish which received the trophy for maximum collection of Rs 2,95,000 followed by Nakre Parish Rs 2,71,836, whereas Udupi parish secured the third position with Rs 6, 15, 000 collection.

In his Concluding message, Most Rev. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo expressed gratitude to all those who had helped in organizing the Diocesan Eucharistic Procession in a grand and meaningful manner.
