Udupi Diocese Stree Sangathan Appeals Dr Jayamala to Increase Limit on Micro-loan
Udupi: Dr Jayamala, the Udupi district minister in-charge and Women and Children’s Welfare Minister paid a good-will visit to the office of Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo on Saturday, 1 December 2018 in Udupi.
On this occasion, the Udupi Diocesan Women’s Organization (Stree Sangathan) members met the minister and submitted an appeal highlighting the work of the organization through self-help groups during the last four years and appraised the minister that whatever micro-loan that the members of the organization had availed from the government, the entire amount has been paid back.
In the appeal, the members of the women’s organization pointed out that there are still certain impediments for the members to avail the micro-loan. Presently, in the rural areas, every woman gets Rs 10,000 loan and the applicants get Rs 5,000 subsidy. Hence, the members have made an appeal to the minister to increase the amount of loan to Rs 15,000 and the subsidy amount to Rs 7,000. Besides, the appeal included a plea to increase the income limit to Rs 1.5 lakh to families in the rural areas and Rs 2 lakh in urban areas for educational schemes.
The women also appealed the minister not to insist on Ration Card for availing the loan of Rs 10,000 and to allow all types of self-help groups to avail interest-free loans.
During this meeting, it was pointed out that in spite of reserving Rs 175 crores for the Christian Minorities under Christian Development Commission, so far the Udupi Diocese has not received any amount. The Bishop made an appeal to the Minister to look into the matter.
Former Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, KPCC Secretary Veronica Cornelio, President of Udupi Diocese Stree Sangathan Jannett Barboza, Spiritual Director of Diocesan Stree Sangathan Fr Reginald Pinto, former President of the Sangathan Judith Fernandes, secretary Clotilda D’Souza, Treasurer Clara Rego, Convener Sr. Jannette Fernandes were present.
