Udupi Dist Congress Protests Against Priyanka Gandhi’s arrest in UP

Udupi: The Udupi district Congress on July 20, held a protest against the Uttar Pradesh BJP government led by Yogi Adityanath for stopping Congress national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from visiting Sonbhadra, where 10 people were shot dead over a land dispute.

Addressing the protesters District women congress vice president Jyothi Hebbar said, “The BJP government led by Yogi Adityanath is trying to hide its failures. Instead of showing compassion for the bereaved families, the Yogi government is targeting the Opposition leaders. BJP is calling women as mother but on the other hand, is targeting women. It shows the double standards of the BJP. There is a right in the constitution for every person to protest against injustice. But the Uttar Pradesh BJP government is trying to take away the constitutional right by arresting the opposition leaders which is condemnable”.

The incident of stopping and detaining Priyanka Gandhi on her way to meet the affected families of the Sonbhadra massacre in Uttar Pradesh is undemocratic and unfortunate. This repressive act of the UP government is a violation of democratic values and an attempt to suppress the voice of the affected families, she said.

Congress leader Nagesh Udyavar said that the Uttar Pradesh BJP government arrested Priyanka Gandhi as it is afraid of her, she was arrested illegally. Is it a crime to meet victims of the violence?”

The Yogi Government in Uttar Pradesh is creating an atmosphere of fear among Dalits and minorities. The rights of the common man are being stifled in Uttar Pradesh and the government is working in a dictatorship manner, he said.

District Congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor and secretary Janardhan Bhandarkar also spoke on the occasion.

District congress vice president Prakyath Shetty, District Youth Congress president Vishwas Ameen, Congress leader Kiran Kumar Udyavar, Yathish Karkera, Sarasu D Bangera, Bhaskar Rao Kidiyoor, Rehaman Kodavoor and others were present.
