Udupi Dist Congress remembers Rajiv Gandhi on 27 Death Anniversary
Udupi: The Udupi District Congress paid homage to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 27th death anniversary at the Congress Bhavan on Monday, May 21. Congress leaders paid floral tributes to the portrait of the late leader.
Addressing the gathering, Nagesh Udyavar recollected the information technology and telecom revolution launched by the former Prime Minister. “Rajiv Gandhi gave a new direction and hope to the youth and women of the country, for which the country is eternally grateful. His vision and dynamic leadership gave a new direction to the country towards integrated development in rural areas. He was also instrumental in ensuring the voting age of 18 years and was directly releasing funds to the panchayat raj bodies,” said Bhandarkar.
Another Congress leader Sathish Ameen also spoke about the achievements of Rajiv Gandhi for the development of the country.
Block Congress president Sathish Ameen Padukere, CMC president Meenakshi Madhava, Congress leader Harish Kini, Annaiah Sherigar, Narashimamoorthy, Keerthi Shetty, Ganesh Nergi, Narayana Kundar, Ramesh Kanchan, Neeraj Patil, Sanjay Acharya and others were present.
Rajiv Gandhi, who was the sixth Prime Minister of India, was assassinated on May 21, 1991, at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu during a poll campaign.
