Udupi Dist Teachers Felicitated For Dedicated Service on ‘Teachers’ Day’

Udupi: The district administration and the G Shanker Family Trust jointly organized district-level Teachers’ Day at the Shyamili auditorium here, on September 5.

The programme began with an invocation. District minister-in-charge, Pramod Madhwaraj, inaugurated the programme by lighting the traditional lamp. Later, he offered floral tributes to the portrait of Dr Sarvapalli Radhkrishnan.

In his message, Pramod Madhwaraj said that teachers play a prominent role in shaping the career and life of the students. Teaching is a noble profession and it is also a service of giving knowledge to students and developing them into good citizens. Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts have been in the forefront in all fields including education and health compared to other districts in Karnataka. One of the main reasons for excellence in education has been the contribution of the Teachers. The selfless service of the teachers in educating young minds of the district has made us proud, he added.

Further, he said that the teachers play a vital role in the achievements of students. Teachers mould students into good human beings. Teachers should teach students to lead a life with good manners; they should fill students with human and social values apart from academics. While a politician or an official is retired, he becomes a retired official or a former politician, but when teachers are retired they are never called as retired teachers. They continue to remain as a teacher, which signifies their role in the society. Teachers should work towards shaping a student into an achiever and a good citizen. When a student achieves, not only his parents rejoice but also the teachers share the happiness of their effort in shaping the student to achieve in life. The 7th Pay Commission for teachers would be announced soon. The teachers have been waiting for this update for a very long time. Also, the revised allowances will reflect in the salaries of the teachers very soon, he said.
