Udupi: Rajiv Gandhi visited villages to formulate policies to uplift the poor rather relying on foreign trips, said MLA Pramod Madhwaraj. He was speaking after offering a floral tribute to former PM Rajiv Gandhi and former CM of Karnataka Devraj Urs at the Congress Bhavan here, on August 20.

“The visionary of the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendment Act was Rajiv Gandhi who promoted decentralization of power to uplift rural areas. Computerization in India was mocked by the BJP, which was then in the opposition, but it paved way for India to become the largest IT product exporter in the world. The IT revolution is a benchmark in Indian economical progress.”

The IT revolution necessitated Karnataka to progress and scale new heights in the IT industry. Today, our state is the second highest income tax payer in the country. Rajiv Gandhi is the modern architect of India whose visions led our country to flourish and progress. It is the efficient contribution and dedication of Congress PMs which has made India a global superpower, he said

The 20 point programme formulated by the Indira Gandhi government was effectively launched in Karnataka by Devraj Urs who was the voice of the poor and the marginalized, he added.

CMC President Yuvraj, MA Gafoor, Prakash Kodavoor, Meenakshi Madhav Bannaje, Keshav Kotian, Narasimha Murthy, Vikas Shetty, Sujaya Poojary and others were present.
