Udupi District All Set to Hold Fair and Free ULB Polls – DC Priyanka Mary

Udupi: “With the State Election Commission (SEC) announcing the dates for the local body polls on Thursday, the Udupi district is all set to conduct free and fair elections for four civic bodies on August 29”, said Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis.

She was speaking at a press meet held at the DC office on August 3. Priyanka Mary said that the Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC), the Kundapur Town Municipal Council (TMC), the Karkala Town Municipal Council (TMC) and the Saligrama Town Panchayat polls will be held on August 29.

The election notification will be issued on August 10, and the last date for candidates to file the nominations is August 17. Votes will be counted on September 1.

There are 1.55 lakh voters across the 4 ULBs of Udupi district, which for the first time, will get to choose the NoTA (none of the Above) option.

There are 75451 men and 79884 women who will exercise their franchise. There are 60 sensitive, 104 general and 2 hyper sensitive booths in Udupi district.

Udupi CMC has a total of 98500 voters (40069 men and 50430 women voters). The total number of voters in Karkala TMC is 20471 including 9820 men and 10651 women, while Kundapur TMC has a total of 23164 voters including 11241 men and 11923 women. The Saligrama Town Panchayat has a total of 13201 voters including 6321 men and 6880 women.

With the announcement, the model code of conduct will come into force with immediate effect. video surveillance teams, flying squads, static surveillance teams, video viewing teams, MCC nodal officers, and five account expenditure teams will keep an eye out for violations.

The election commission has set the campaign expenditure limits per candidate at Rs 2 lakhs in the CMC, Rs 1.50 lakhs for Kundapur and Karkala TMC and Rs 1 Lakh for Saligrama Town Panchayat respectively.

The mustering and de-mustering centres in Udupi CMC and Saligrama Town Panchayat are at St Cicely’s High School Udupi, Mini Vidhana Soudha for Kundapur TMC and the Mini Vidhana Soudha for Karkala TMC.
