Udupi: The district BJP Mahila Morcha celebrated ‘International Women’s Day’ at Katyayani Mantapa Kadiyali, here on Sunday, March 8.
The programme began with an invocation. Veena Shetty, Secretary of Mahila BJP, welcomed the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by Shobha Karandlaje, MP of Udupi-Chikkamagaluru, along with other dignitaries on the dais.
In her message, Shobha Karandlaje said that the increasing violence against women is a huge challenge for the nation and calls for thought provoking retrospection over the path opted by the current generation. “Youth have succumbed to external influence, which provokes them to experience all sorts of pleasure.” Pointing out at the media over the uncontrolled information and unethical promotions aiding pornography, the MP said that it is high time for the nation to look into the issues that are posing a threat to the sanctity of womanhood. “Children should be taught Indian principles besides respect for women.”
She also condemned the BBC documentary over the Nirbhaya case titled ‘Indian Daughter’. She said that sexual assault cases are reported across every country in the world including the traditional societies like Islamic States. “Why should the incident in India be focused dragging huge attention, while similar incidents also take place across the globe?” she questioned. She said that the documentary should be censured across India.
District BJP Mahila Morcha president, Sheela K Shetty presided over the function. BJP state working member Uday Kumar Shetty, District co-ordinator Mattar Rathnakar Hegde, former MLA Raghupathi Bhat, Lalaji R Mendon, BJP women leaders Suma Keshav, Sandhya Ramesh, Githanjali Suvarna, Rashmitha Balakrishna Shetty, Geetha Ravi Shet, Veena S Shetty, Vasuda Prabhu, Shantha V S Acharya, Suprabha Acharya, Nayana Sharada Poojary and others were present.
