Udupi: District Celebrates 60th Kannada Rajyotsava with Grandeur of Cultural Extravaganza

Udupi: The 60th Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations marked the grandeur of cultural extravaganza in Mahatma Gandhi Stadium Kadiyali here, on November 1.

Vinay Kumar Sorake, district minister in-charge and state urban development minister, hoisted the falg and received the guard of honor.
Addressing the gathering, Vinay Kumar Sorake said that the Siddaramaiah-led state government has initiated a number of programmes for the all round development of the district. The state government has taken up farmer-friendly measures, said Sorake adding that with mechanisation of farming being the need of the hour, as many as 1,558 farming tools have been distributed to farmers. Rs 7.24 crore has been released under the Agricultural equipment distribution scheme in the district. Rs 10.32 crore has been allocated for the maintenance of rural stretches in the district. The rural drinking water project at a cost of Rs 21.43 crore is also under progress.
A proposal has been sent to the government under the Paschima Vahini scheme for a project worth Rs 354.35 crore for 332 vented dams and salt water walls at dams. He added that through the Grama Vikas Yojane, every Assembly constituency is provided Rs 3.75 crore to develop five villages. He said that up to 100 kilometres stretch of road is being developed in the district under ‘Namma Grama, Namma Raste’ Yojane.

As many as Rs 224.16 lakh is being spent under the National Food Security programme. Infrastructure will be developed in the town following the Paryaya celebrations in January. Up to 1,54,604 families have been selected as beneficiaries of the Anna Bhagya scheme in the district. “We have 3,322 beneficiaries under various minority development schemes. Families of fishermen who lose their lives while fishing will receive Rs 2 lakh as compensation. A National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Centre is also being planned in the district at a cost of Rs 40 crore, with the Central and State governments sharing the cost at a 75:25 proportion,” he said.
Referring to the effective implementation of social security schemes in the district, Sorake said that 56,912 beneficiaries for Sandhya Suraksha Yojane, 2252 beneficiaries for Manaswini Yojane, 21 beneficiaries for Maithri Yojeane, 3879 beneficiaries for Old age pension, 13688 beneficiaries for physically handicap pension and 32953 beneficiaries for Vidhwa Vethana Yojane have profited from the respectivw schemes in the district.
The district Rajyotsava Award was presented to 21 achievers. Earlier, a procession of  Bhuvaneshwari was flagged off by Vinay Kumar Sorake at the Government College near Service Bus-stand.
Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj, ZP president Savitha Kotian, TP President Sunitha Naik, KSDL Chairperson Veronica Cornelio, Deputy Commissioner Dr R Vishal, Superintendent of Police Annamalaih, ZP CEO Kanagavalli and others were present.
