Udupi: The Ganesh Chathurthi festival was celebrated with faith and dedication around the district on September 17.
People thronged temples since morning to pray. The festival was also celebrated in residential localities across cities and towns, with idols set up inside pendals. Gigantic, medium and small idols of Lord Ganesh were installed at various public venues, apartments and homes.
Devotees visited temples to offer flowers, fruits and ‘modak’ (a sweet stuffed in wheat-based dough) to the lord. Ganesh temples in the city also witnessed heavy rush of devotees yesterday.
In many households, idols of Lord Ganesha were placed, where family members joined and celebrated the feast, not forgetting to prepare delicious meals and sweet dishes. At Shri Krishna Math and Kundapur Anegudde Vinayaka temple, special pujas were offered. Paryaya Shri Vidhyavallbha Teertha Swamiji offered special puja at the Shri Krishna temple.
Huge idols of Ganesha were installed in several places as part of the Sarvajanika Ganapati. The district’s main Krishna temple and other places also were decked up for the festival and hundreds of devotees stood in attendance at the doors and worshiped Lord Ganesha with fervour.
Hundreds of huge Ganesha idols put up at public places across the district were worshiped by the devotees throughout the day. There were several Ganapatis installed by Bus-owners and Drivers’ Association Udupi, Yuvak Mandals, Hindu Yuva Sene, Alevoor Friends, Pilar Friends Shirva and other organisations. Cultural programmes were also organised.
