Udupi District Celebrates Kannada Rajyotsava with Cultural Extravaganza
Udupi: The Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations marked the grandeur of cultural extravaganza at the Mahatma Gandhi Stadium Beedinagudde here, on Wednesday, November 1.
Pramod Madhwaraj, district minister in-charge and state Fisheries, Sports and Youth service minister, hoisted the flag and received the guard of honour.
Addressing the gathering, Pramod Madhwaraj said that the Siddaramaiah-led state government has initiated a number of programmes for the all-round development of the district.
Elaborating the various development works in the district Pramod Madhwaraj said that the State government has taken steps for the comprehensive development of tourism in the district. In a bid to attract tourists, the district administration has decided to introduce scuba diving near Kaup beach from November. The district administration has also decided to distribute tourist taxis to 22 unemployed youth under the special fund. The State government has implemented the ‘Karnataka Darshan’ excursion programme to all children of government high schools across the State. In Udupi district, Rs 25.86 lakh has been released and many students have benefitted in this programme.
To promote sports the government has sanctioned an Athletics and Swimming academy in Udupi district. The state government has allocated Rs 1 Crore for the gymnasium, Rs 1.5 Crore for the sports academy and Rs 1 Crore for the women sports academy. A lawn tennis stadium will be constructed and Rs 3.15 Crore has been reserved for the project. Also, air conditioning facilities for the indoor stadium will be made, he said.
The State government has decided to set up Indira Canteens in all the taluk and district headquarters and provide subsidised food from January. In Udupi district Kundapur, Karkala, Manipal and Udupi will get the Indira canteens soon. A sum of Rs. 53.50 lakhs has been allocated for the sea walkway at Malpe beach. It will be the first such sea walkway in the State, Referring to the effective implementation of social security schemes in the district, Madhwaraj said that many beneficiaries have profited from the various schemes in the district.
The district Rajyotsava Award was presented to 46 achievers and 6 associations. Earlier, a procession of Bhuvaneshwari was flagged off by Pramod Madhwaraj at the Government College near Service Bus-stand.
ZP president Dinakar Babu, TP president Nalini Pradeep Rao, Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis, Superintendent of Police Dr Sanjeev Patil, ZP CEO Shivananda Kapasi and others were present.
Attractive tableaux and cultural programmes added colour to the Rajyotsava Day celebrations. Various tableaux from different government departments came in a procession from the Board High School to the grounds. These tableaux focused on different themes.
