Udupi District Congress holds Protest over Land Reform Act Amendment

Udupi: As called by the state Committee the Udupi district congress held a protest, “Jana Dhwani” (peoples voice) on August 20, alleging the failure of the government on COVID, floods and ordinances on labour, agricultural land and APMC.

The protesters took out a Jatha from the Congress Bhavan to Udupi Taluk office and handed over a memorandum to the Governor through the Thashildar.

Speaking on the occasion, former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake termed the labour, land and APMC ordinances as anti-labour and anti-farmer. People have been let down as the government has not been able to control COVID. BJP government has removed the safeguards in the law to protect the land of the farmers. We are opposing anti-farmer amendments. The BJP government is an anti-farmers’ government which never thinks about the downtrodden, he said.

Former MLA U R Sabhapthi, Udupi district Congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, vice president Prakyath Shetty, congress leaders Veronica Cornelio, Harish Kini, Janardhan Bhandarkar, Ramesh Kanchan, Vishwas Ameen, Geetha Wagle, Dr Sunitha Shetty, Roshani Oliver and others were present.
