Udupi District Observes International Yoga Day with Group Yoga Programmes

Udupi: People from different walks of life celebrated International Yoga Day in the district. Starting with school and college students, the day also witnessed officials and teachers performing Yoga to mark the International Yoga Day on June 21.

The district-level Yoga Day programme was held at the District Indoor Stadium, Ajjarkad. Dinakar Babu President of Udupi Zilla Panchayat, along with Nalini Pradeep President of Udupi Taluk Panchayat, inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

In his message, Dinakar Babu said that Yoga is an ancient Indian practice which is very useful for curing many diseases and health disorders. It is a holistic approach to physical and mental well- being. Yoga day is now celebrated internationally and people from more than 170 nations are practicing it. India has been a model to other countries with its rich treasures like Yoga. Yoga is essential for maintaining good health and a sound mind.

Students from various schools and colleges performed Yoga at the District Indoor Stadium, Ajjarkad. Relevant associations organized the International Yoga Day programme at Rajangana of Sri Krishna Math and participants performed various asanas.

Members of the Bharatiya Janatha Party also performed yoga at a programme conducted by the District BJP Office at the Sheshashayana Hall.
