Udupi District Observes Tipu Jayanti in absence of Congress-JDS leaders

Udupi: The Udupi district celebrated the state-sponsored Tipu Jayanti in the absence of the people’s representatives including district minister in-charge Dr Jayamala on Saturday, November 10.

The district-level Tipu Jayanti programme was organized at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium, DC Complex Manipal at 10:30 am. The district minister in-charge Dr Jaymala was supposed to inaugurate the Tipu Jayanti. As the Kannada and Culture Minister, she had participated in the state-level Tipu Jayanti programme at Bengaluru.

The name of other ruling Congress – JDS leaders like Prathapchandra Shetty (MLC), Oscar Fernandes (MP Rajya Sabha), Bhoje Gowda (MLC) were also mentioned in the invitation. Unfortunately, all three Congress and JDS leaders were absent for the programme.

The BJP representatives Raghupathi Bhat (MLA Udupi), Dinakar Babu (president ZP), Shobha Karandlaje (MP Udupi-Chikkamagaluru), Lalaji R Mendon (MLA Kaup), B M Sukumar Shetty (MLA Byndoor), Haladi Srinivasa Shetty (MLA Kundapur), Ayanuru Manjunath (MLC), Sheela K Shetty (vice president ZP), Nalini Pradeep Rao (president TP) boycotted the programme.

Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. Laxman Nimbargi superintendent of Police Udupi district, Vidya Kumar Additional DC, KP Ibraheem president Walkf committee Udupi district, R Chandrashekar deputy director Kannada and culture department were the others present for the programme.
