Udupi District Youth Congress Demand fair probe in Kavya’s Death, Condemn HDK’s statement
Udupi: The Udupi District Youth Congress demanded a fair investigation into the mysterious death of class X student Kavya at Alva’s school hostel in Moodbidri.
Addressing the mediapersons at a press meet held at the press club on Monday, July 31, Vishwas Ameen president of Udupi district youth Congress said that 15-year-old Kavya, a student of Alvas’s High School and a badminton champion was found hanging in her hostel room. Kavya’s shocked parents have cried foul as the body was taken down and kept at the mortuary. There are many questions leading to suspicion in Kavya’s death. Kavya had spoken to her parents on the previous night, and there were no signs of her being in depression or facing any problems. After the incident, a number of protests were held in the state and abroad.
The district youth Congress will meet the district minister in-charge who is also the sports minister, Pramod Madhwaraj and Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis demanding a high-level investigation into the mysterious death of Kavya. We are also demanding a compensation from the State government to the family on humanitarian grounds. We demand a thorough investigation into her death. All educational institutions should take measures to ensure that such incidents of suicide do not recur in the district, he said.
Vighnesh Kini district General Secretary of Youth Congress said that the state government has already initiated action in this case. The department has started an investigation of the case. The district minister in-charge Ramanath Rai has also visited Kavya’s house and consoled the family members assuring them all the support from the government. We are also demanding an impartial probe to be conducted to give justice to the family of Kavya. All the unanswered questions need to be looked into by the investigation authorities. All doubts raised by the parents should be cleared.
Condemning the statement of former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy for batting in favour of Dr Mohan Alva in this incident Vishwas said that it is a statement to gain political mileage. HDK has blamed the media for giving judgment before the investigation and advised that the media should fight for justice but quick judgement is not correct. The Media is doing its duty fairly and they are fighting for justice to the poor family. When he was the chief minister of Karnataka the same media has given wide publicity to HDK and he should remember that. From the past two days, HDK is in the Coastal district but has never visited Kavya’s House. HDK is supporting the Alava’s Management which is condemnable, he added.
