Udupi District’s Sand problem will be Solved Soon – DC G Jagadeesha
Udupi: The development of the district has been totally stopped due to the Sand problem, there is a need to start extracting sand soon. Strict action will be taken to stop the sand from going out of Udupi district said deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha.
He was speaking at a press meet held at CMC Udupi on Sunday, September 1. DC Jagadeesha said, “The sand which is extracted in the district will be utilized locally for the construction of houses for the poor and the building of various government schemes. The first priority will be for the construction of houses. The problem of the availability of sand will be solved soon”.
“There is no need to re-survey to identify the sand bars in the district. Two persons have obtained the license to clear the sand bars in the Non CRZ area. Meanwhile we will allow the extraction of sand from CRZ area soon. Sand dunes have already been identified in the district. Two licenses have been issued to clear the sand dunes in the non-CRZ area. Similarly, the sand removal of sand is allowed in CRZ jurisdiction without any legal complications. There is still a huge quantity of sand available in the Baje reservoir. Action has to be being taken to dredge the Baje reservoir.
When I was CEO of Kolar ZP, I started the Phone-in programme which was held once a month to find out the problems and solve them. There is plan to continue the same in Udupi district also and this programme will be started soon,” he said.
