Udupi: Nadoja Dr G Shanker, president of G Shanker Family Trust Ambalpadi, celebrated his 60th birthday in a unique manner by distributing aid to 1000 Kidney and Cancer patients and 100 old age homes, orphanages and special schools at the Shamili Auditorium here on October 5.
The unique birthday celebration began with an invocation. Shamili, daughter of G Shanker, welcomed the gathering.
In his introductory remarks, Dr G Shanker said, “I am really happy to celebrate this day with all of you. When we live in this society, we have to give something back and we should always think of what we can do for the society. The aim of holding this mammoth celebration is to fill in confidence among the people who are suffering from chronic diseases. The Lord has blessed me in abundance and sharing the same among the people brings me great satisfaction. The blessings and teachings of my parents have helped me to scale new heights. I have rendered service to my motherland and in days to come, I want to serve my ‘karma bhoomi’ North Karnataka which nurtured my ambitions and growth.”
Nadoja Justice Dr S R Nayak, president of State Law Commission Bengaluru, along with Ramya Tarikere, a 4-year-old child from Chikkamagaluru district who has been suffering from serious diseases, inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. On the occasion, Dr G Shanker announced Rs 1 lakh as help from his trust for the treatment of Ramya Tarikere.
In his message, Nadoja Justice Dr S R Nayak said that Dr G Shankar has rendered his service along with his wife and daughter to the people without discrimination. “He has served the society above religions. In our society, we live for ourselves; while G Shanker is living for the people in our society. His trust has served people from every walk of life. He has not restricted his service to his caste and has influenced many to follow his path towards serving the society.”
“Food, health and education are important for every person and G Shanker has been effectively working for the betterment of the society. He and his team hold blood donation camps, distribute educational and medical help. Serving humanity is like serving God and G Shanker should be called ‘Vishwamanava’, for his social initiatives”.
In his key note address, Dr P V Bhandary – well known Psychiatrist and director of Dr A V Baliga Memorial Hospital Doddangudde – said that we should learn to fight diseases with determination. “Every patient should have determination, devotion to God, discipline in food habits and consumption of medicine, and belief in destiny. Positive thinking is must to fight against diseases so that everyone can lead a healthy life.”
Dr S Sachidananda, Associate Professor for evaluation at Rajeev Gandhi Health University Bengaluru, congratulated Dr G Shanker on his diamond birthday celebration and also thanked him for announcing Rs 1 crore as aid to build a Cancer Unit in Wenlock Hospital Mangaluru.
Symbolically, 4 Kidney and Cancer patients and 4 Special Schools received aid from Nadoja Justice Dr S R Nayak. In total, more than 1000 Kidney and Cancer patients from various hospitals and more than 100 special schools, orphanages and old age homes received aid.
Dr Rohanchandra Gatti (Associate Professor and Head of Surgical Oncology Department Fr Muller’s Medical College Hospital Mangaluru), Dr Ravindra Prabhu(Dean of Nephrology Department KMC Manipal), Sadananda Balkur (president ofMogaveera Yuva Sanghatane), Shalini Shanker and others were also present on the occasion.
