Udupi: The Kaup Police arrested two persons on charges of extortion, from Shirva here on August 17.
The arrested have been identified as Rohit (23) and Shivaraj (24), native of Dommasandra Bengaluru.
According to the police Rohit and Shivaraj were threatening Stanly a businessman of Shirva and Vincent D’Souza of Manipura over phone and demanding Hafta. The accused were using telephone booths to make calls. They were claiming to be associates of Underworld don Ravi Poojary. Both businessmen lodged a complaint in the Kaup Police Station.
Based on the complaint Kaup Police formed a team to trace the culprits and arrested them on August 17.
The operation was led by Kaup PSI Jagadish Shetty under the supervision of CPI Sunil Naik and direction of DySP Vinay nayak. ASP Santhosh Kumar and SP Annamalai.
The arrested were produced before the court and remanded to Judicial Custody till August 31.
