Udupi: Family Life Center (JIVIT) and Family Life Commission of the Diocese organized the Kallianpur Deanery Level Couple’s Day at the Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur here on Thursday, October 22.
The memorable day of the couples began with a procession from the Milagres Tri-centenary Hall to the Milagres Cathedral with a melodious brass band ‘Sunshine Parampalli’ to the altar of the Diocese Cathedral. The solemn Eucharistic mass was concelebrated by the Bishop of Udupi Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo along with the Rector of Cathedral Fr Stany B Lobo, Estate Manager of Udupi Diocese Fr Henry Mascarenhas, Fr Fredrick D’Souza of Thottam Church, Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves of Kemmannu Church and Fr Denis Lobo, Director of Pilar Fathers.
In his homily, the bishop said that it is a happy moment to see the married couples once again in front of the altar to thank God. He pointed out three important hints to the couples. “The creation of the world is the planning of God. We should be thankful to the Lord that he created the world and the family. The unity of the family is the planning of God. The relation between married couples should be like that of Jesus with the Church. Man and Woman are complete with the Sacrament of Matrimony. The secret of a successful family is the unity of the married couples with each other and their respect each other.”
He said that the Sacrament of Matrimony of a couple’s life starts with love. “For the life of a married couple to be permanent, their love should continue as it started during the wedding day.”
The bishop renewed the wedding vows of more than 140 couples of Kallianpur Deanery before the altar of God. The bishop then sprinkled holy water on all the married couples.
After the mass, a brief reception function was organized for the couples in the cathedral auditorium. During the occasion, Bishop Dr Gerald Lobo, Fr Stany Lobo and PRO of Udupi Diocese Fr Denis D’Sa were present along with one of the oldest and the youngest couples on the dais.
Two couples, who had their birthday and wedding anniversary, cut the cake with enthusiasm and shared the cake with each other. Fr Stany B Lobo raised the toast meaningfully, which was applauded by the couples. Another chief guest of the occasion, Fr Denis D’Sa also gave his message to the couples.
Various spot games were conducted by the MC Roshan Sequiera of Kuntalnagar and prizes were distributed to winners by Fr Stany B Lobo. Leslie Aroza delivered the vote of thanks. Lunch was arranged for all participants.
