Udupi: “I am happy with the number of votes I have received, but defeat was not expected in the Legislative council elections”, said Jayaprakash Hegde who was expelled for the Congress party for contesting as an independent candidate.
He was addressing the mediapersons at a press meet held at the press club on Thursday December 31, I was sure that I would win only the first preferential votes. We had support from all corners. The support of the public did not turn into votes. The other candidates like the congress and BJP had the support from MP’s, state ministers and MLAs. However I was the lone soldier in the battle ground.
Further Hegde said, “Defeat would not deter him and he would continue in active politics. Defeat has never disheartened me. When I had lost I did not sit at home. I might have lost but there are many who have voted for me, so I cannot sit silent. I am always with the people and workers and will work for them”.
The congress party has followed double standards while expelling me from the party. Pratapchandra Shetty and some other ministers were inactive and had not worked for the party during the Vidhana Sabha, Lok Sabha and Gram Panchayat elections. I have discussed this matter with senior leader Oscar Fernandes in the Circuit House in Mangaluru. No steps have been taken against them. If the party decided to take disciplinary steps against me, then the same action should have been take against them also he added.
In the upcoming Taluk and Zilla panchyat elections I have decided to support my friends who have supported me in the MLC elections. The future of my political career will be decided after discussions with my supporters and followers, he added.
Hegde suggested MLC Pratapchandra Shetty to become an active MLC in his constituency as well as the Legislative council.
Expelled Brahmavar Block Congress president Birthi Rajesh Shetty and treasurer Harish Shetty Cherkadi were present in the pressmeet.
JP Hegde is good candidate for the people at all time ! this MLC election is total bogus and not contributing towards development at all! real election is MLA/MP where general public vote and chose ! i am sure in this MLC election most of the congress voters told not to cast their 2nd vote to Hegde! even though still he secured over 35- 40 % of the total congress vote ! this shows his clean image . i suggest him to join BJP or contest independent for the next up coming MLA seat ( udupi or kaup ) ,… Read more »
ram – “i suggest him to join BJP or contest independent for the next up coming MLA seat ( udupi or kaup ) , he will definitely beat any congress candidate .”
mr. RAM, YOU WOULD VOTE FOR THE BJP TO DEFEAT JP HEGDE TOO!
YOU ARE PRAISING TO SNATCH THE PIECE OF MEAT IN THE BEAK OF THE CROW. BUT JP HEGDE KNOWS THE RSS AND THE BJP FULL WELL! YOU WOULD BE DISAPPOINTED.
BUT, THE BJP MUST MAKE HIM ITS CANDIDATE AND NOT SOME ONE FROM THE RSS, TO WOO HIM.
CAN IT?”
He is a sore loser. 2 independents have won in Karnataka. If he was good he would have won too
