Udupi: “The Government of Karnataka has waived loans worth Rs 2.82 crore availed by 543 beneficiaries of 35 CMC wards under Ashraya Housing Scheme for the period 1993-94 to 2002-03,” said Pramod Madhwaraj, Parliamentary Secretary for Department of Revenue. He was speaking after distributing certificates to the beneficiaries at Town Hall, here on January 22.
The beneficiaries who had availed loan under Ashraya Housing Scheme were unaware of the repayment of loan and their debt increased and it was also recorded in RTC. After discussion with the Chief Minister on waiving of the loan in the cabinet meeting, the decision was taken to wave of the loan of all the beneficiaries in the state was decided. The GOK has waived loan of rupees 2200 crore of all the beneficiaries in the state.
The record of debt in RTC will be eliminated which will enable them to avail new schemes. 11,000 people are provided with BPL cards, they should utilise the facility with care, if their electricity bill exceeds 450 rupees their BPL card will be converted to APL.
“People in CMC limits settled in government land should apply for title deeds under 94CC. The 9/11 is cancelled in 6 districts including Udupi,” he added.
CMC President Yuvraj, CMC Vice President Amrutha Krishnamurthy, Standing Committee President Prashanth Bhat, CMC Commissioner Manjunathayya and others were present.
The minister Madwaraj almost makes it sound like he is paying from his own pocket. When you say “waived loans worth Rs 2.82 crores..” the loan does not disappear into thin air. It will be paid for through more taxes on people in the future. At this rate the Congres government is going to convert our state into another Bihar in the next 10 years.
