Udupi: Indian Red Cross Society Observes World Geneva Convention Day in City

Udupi: The district unit of the Indian Red Cross Society has initiated the construction work of the Rehabilitation Centre for the Disabled costing Rs 42 lakh, said Deputy Commissioner Dr R Vishal. He was speaking after flagging off the Geneva Convention Day organised by the Udupi Indian Red Cross Society at the district stadium, Ajjarkad here on August 12.

The rehabilitation centre will be equipped with modern amenities for quality healthcare. A speech therapist has been appointed along with 3 other staff.

Chairman of the district IRCS said that the Red Cross units have been opened in every college across the state. The 68,500 members are efficiently working in the organisation. The funds raised during the Geneva Convention Day will be utilised for the upliftment of poor and disabled, he added.

Volunteers of the IRCS, the Youth Red Cross and the Junior Red Cross took out a procession from the district stadium to the Service bus-stand.

Lions Governor Shridhar Shenava, Udupi ICRS district vice chairperson Dr Umesh Prabhu, Treasurer T Chandrashekar and others were present. Dr Nikin Shetty compered the programme.
