Udupi Journos shows coastal Cultural Extravaganza during media academy workshop

Udupi: The IMA Bhavan witnessed the rich cultural galore of coastal Karnataka Journos with power packed performances mesmerizing the audience at the Media academy workshop here on Saturday, January 21. The workshop was organised by Karnataka Media Academy, Department of Information and Broadcasting, Udupi District Working Journalists Association and Karnataka Media Academy.

The TV journalists team including Ashok Poojary, Nagaraj Vorkadi, Prajwal Ameen, Chethan Matapadi, Anish D’Souza, Adithya, Deepak Jain and Sandesh Shetty staged the Yakshagana Nrithya Roopaka folklore titled “Nala Karkotaka” directed by Yaksha Guru Bannanje Sanjeeva Suvarna. Another team of Journalists including Santhosh Sarlebettu, Pallavi Santhosh, Tripthi, Avin Shetty and Harshini staged a short comedy play “Second Hand Sadashiva” directed by Nagaraj Rao Vorkadi which enthralled the audience.

Earlier the Workshop, “Problems of Costal line – solutions and responsibility of Media” was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner Venkatesh IAS by pouring water to the plant.

Addressing the gathering, in his message the deputy commissioner said that Udupi is known for educational excellence and progressive approach but issues like sea erosion, migrated labourers etc are still prevalent. The media has to play an effective role in addressing those issues. Media has to present the problems to the government effectively. The media should focus on social issues but other negative issues still make news. The issues which ruin society should be effectively tackled, he added.

Chief speaker Dr H C Sharath Chandra said that there are numerous issues leading to problems in the coastal region. More than 25 rivers flow in Udupi, Mangaluru and Uttar Kannada. The Western Ghats are rich in natural resources. The railway connectivity and the national highway attracts entrepreneurs and industries which adversely affects the environment here. The problems in industries are destroying nature and media has to play an effective role in highlighting these issues, he added.

Senior Editor A V Balakrishna Holla presented his views on the development of the coastal areas and the responsibility of the media. Senior editor of Karwar Gangadhar Hiregutti shared his views on the problems in fishing in coastlines.

M Siddaraju president of Karnataka Madhyama Academy, Jayakar Suvarna president Udupi district working Journalists association, Nalini Pradeep Rao president Udupi Taluk Panchayat, Venkat Singh, Muthu Nayak, Academy secretary Shankarappa, K Rohini director district information and broadcasting department and others were present.
