Udupi: The efforts of veterans like K N Tailor and other senior artistes has made Tulu film industry to flourish said Vinay Kumar Sorake, Minister for Urban Development and Minister in-charge district. He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Tulu Chitra Sambrama’ to commemorate the release of 50 Tulu language cinemas. The programme was held at the Golden Jubilee Hall, Syndicate Bank, Manipal here on August 29. The programme was organised by the Department of Information and Broadcasting jointly with Karnataka Film Academy and Manipal Media Network Limited.
Speaking Tulu language is a matter of pride. Our culture is influencing our youth. The regional sports like Kesardonji Dina is no more limited to villages but the youth from city too are actively participating in it. The Tulu film industry has earned laurels even in Mumbai and Dubai making us proud, he added.
Ramanath Rai, Minister for Forests and Minister in-charge Dakshina Kannada district said that the efforts are on to include Tulu language into 8th schedule of the Indian constitution. Actors, technicians, producers and directors from the twin districts have made our hometown proud. Coastal Karnataka offers ample opportunities for budding film makers to flourish, the locations which include beaches and Western Ghats give rich look to movies. The Tulu film industry should flourish and grow, he added.
S V Rajendra Singh Babu, President of Karnataka Film Academy said that Tulu film industry has scaled new heights. Kannada films fail to make space in multiplexes in Mumbai but Tulu films manage which is commendable. He also said that an award will be constituted in the name of K N Tailor.
“Tulu Basheya Suvarna Chitragalu” a book on the 50 films of Tulu industry compiled by Tamma Lakshmana was released by Ramanath Rai. Prior to the formal stage programme a cultural fiesta by Alvas students mesmerised the audience.
Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA Udupi presided over the programme. H B Dinesh, Registrar Karnataka Film Academy welcomed the gathering.
