Udupi: The City Municipal Council organised the distribution of tricycles to specially-abled persons under the 3% reservation grant at the council premises here on Tuesday, September 22.
Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA of Udupi, distributed the tricycle keys to the 14 beneficiaries of Udupi Municipal Council area.
In his message, Pramod Madhwaraj said that the specially-abled persons do not need sympathy, rather they need opportunities. “It is everyone’s responsibility to create awareness among the specially-abled persons with regard to the facilities available to them and on how they can make the best use of those facilities. The City Municipal Council is committed to implement the 3 percent reservation fund in the CMC for persons with disabilities. Specially-abled persons should not be considered a burden on society. They too deserve respect in the society.” The MLA also said that the CMC should give first preference to issue licences to such persons to run petty shops within CMC limits.
