Udupi: Need to Empower Youth and Harness them in Right Direction – Vineetha Rai

Udupi: There is a need to empower the youth in various fields, said Vineetha Rai, Project Officer of National Service Scheme, Mangaluru University on Thursday, 12 February at Rajangana.

She was speaking after inaugurating the District Youth Convention which was organized jointly by the Youth Empowerment Department of the Union Ministry, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Prayaya Shri Krishna Math and NSS Mangaluru University.

“Youth are the source of power. They can be used either for good or bad. Society can prosper only when the power of the youth is harnessed in the right direction. India has a vast majority of population who are youth. We will be able to progress as a nation only when we enable our youth to gain maximum education.” She underscored the need to motivate the youth to take part in nation building. “It is the responsibility of the society to channel the youth in the proper direction and to provide proper guidance to them”.

Samruddhi Yuvaka Mandala which showed a good performance in various activities in 2013-14 was conferred the Best Yuvaka Mandala. NSS students who participated in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi were also honoured on the occasion.

Zilla Panchayat president Savitha Shivananda Kotian presided over the function. District Youth Empowerment and Sport Department director Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty, Udupi Taluk Yuvajana Okkuta president Harish Kotian, Kundapur Taluk president Sanmath Hegde and Udupi Taluk Mahila Mandaligala Okkuta president Sheela K Shetty were present on the occasion.
