Udupi: “The party will initiate disciplinary action against the rebel candidates who go against the dictum of the party high command,” said senior congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP, Oscar Fernandes.
He was speaking with mediapersons on Sunday, December 13. “Those who contest against the official candidate announced by the party, will not be considered any more as party member(s).
Replying to queries on the National Herald Case, Oscar said that he is proud of being a trustee for the National Herald, the paper that was brought out to strengthen the fight against the British in the pre-independent era of the country. The parliamentarian said that the paper was introduced by Nehru as a form of agitation and patriotic struggle against the British. “Every Indian is proud to be associated with the paper. The government is working against the Congress party.” He lamented that the public have given a majority mandate and the BJP has failed to keep up to the expectations of the voters who brought them to power. “The government is wasting time on unnecessary issues,” he accused.
The district minister in-charge Vinay Kumar Sorake said that there is nothing wrong in aspiring and also contesting. However there are limitations. There was no need to go for the extreme measure of contesting independently as the rebels. The decision to field Prathapchandra Shetty was taken after consulting the block level workers in the party and the decision was forwarded to the high command by Oscar Fernandes. The campaign is taken up in all the areas and the campaign would be intensified in the days to come. The KPCC would take disciplinary measures against the rebel candidates who have decided to contest independently in the forthcoming MLC polls, he added.
