Udupi Police Confiscate Rs 5.75 Lakh Worth of Ganja, One Arrested in Manipal
Udupi: The Udupi Police Department has arrested a 31-year-old man, identified as Areeb Ahmed, for allegedly selling ganja (cannabis) in a public area near the 2nd Cross of Manipal Tangkode in Badagabettu village. The arrest followed a period of surveillance based on credible intelligence indicating the illegal sale of narcotics in the area.
According to police reports, Mr. Ahmed was apprehended while allegedly engaging in the illicit trade. Upon his arrest, authorities seized 7.304 kilograms of ganja, estimated to be worth approximately Rs 575,000. Law enforcement officials stated that the ganja was being sold without the required permits and licenses. In addition to the narcotics, police also confiscated two mobile phones belonging to the suspect.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Mr. Ahmed had procured the ganja from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. He reportedly confessed to purchasing the substance from a cycle rickshaw driver in the aforementioned city, with the intent of selling it in Manipal.
A case has been formally registered at the CEN Crime Police Station in Udupi. The investigation is currently underway to determine the full extent of the operation, including identifying and apprehending any potential accomplices involved in the illegal drug trade. Police are actively pursuing leads to locate the supplier in Vijayawada and dismantle the supply chain. Further details are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
