Udupi Police Locate Mother of Deceased Newborn Found in Malpe Toilet, Legal Action Pending
Udupi: The Udupi District Police have located the mother of the newborn infant whose body was discovered in a public toilet in Malpe earlier this month. Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr. K. Arun confirmed the development today, stating that legal proceedings are imminent against the woman identified as Afrina, a resident of the local area.
On the 14th of this month, authorities were alerted to the presence of a deceased newborn in a toilet located within a building associated with the mosque near Jamia Masjid at the Malpe junction. The discovery prompted an immediate investigation by the Malpe Police Station, following a formal complaint lodged by mosque officials. Bloodstains were also found on the interior walls of the toilet facility.
According to the police investigation, Afrina, who already has one child, was approximately 7-8 months pregnant at the time of the incident. Allegedly, she attempted to induce an abortion without professional medical supervision. Suffering from acute abdominal pain, she reportedly delivered the baby in the mentioned toilet. Afrina has admitted to abandoning the infant in the location before leaving the premises.
Currently, Afrina is receiving medical treatment at a local hospital. SP Dr. Arun stated that once she is discharged, the legal process will be formally initiated against her.
Furthermore, Dr. Arun addressed the proliferation of unsubstantiated audio clips circulating on social media that allege the child belonged to another individual. He emphatically denounced these claims as false rumors and issued a stern warning. He emphasized that the Udupi Police will take appropriate legal action against any individual or group found to be disseminating false information regarding this sensitive case.
