Udupi Police Step up Measures to Crack down on Poll Code Violation
Udupi: To avoid the violation of model code of conduct during the Assembly elections and to ensure peace and harmony, the district police have put in place several measures.
Speaking to mangalorean.com SP Laxman Nimbargi said, “As many as 17 (3 in National Highway and 14 in state and PWD roads) check-posts have been set up at sensitive places in the district to check the transportation of cash by political parties to lure voters. Checking of vehicles and frisking of passengers will be done. Registration number of vehicles that pass through the check-posts will be noted”.
Nimbargi further said that already 3 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have arrived in the district. The CAPF personnel will be deployed at the check-posts and sensitive areas of the district. Security personnel will be deployed in the jurisdiction of such polling stations to instil confidence among the people and enable them to exercise their vote without fear. If need arises, flag march will be taken out in such places, he said.
Nimbargi also said that the activities of rowdy-sheeters in the district are being closely monitored. Nearly 2,000 security cases have been registered against rowdy-sheeters. We have already deported 6 rowdy-sheeters and the department has appealed to the district administration to deport 5 more.
On the direction issued by the district administration for licensed gun-holders to deposit their firearms, 90 percent of the licensed gun-holders in the district have already deposited their firearms with the administration, said Nimbargi.
