Udupi: The “Pura Pravesha” programme of Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math will be held here on January 2, 2016. Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math will be ascending the ‘Paryaya peetha’ for the fifth time on January 18.
Speaking at a press meet held at the Pejawar Math, Rathna Kumar secretary of the reception committee said that The pravesha is a customary entry into the city by the Swamiji ascending the Paryaya Peetha after going on a pre-Paryaya tour to pilgrimage centres and other religious places. The “pura pravesha” procession will start at Jodukatte at 4 p.m. The procession will reach Car Street at 6 p.m. and Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji and Shri Vishwaprasanna Swamiji will enter the Pejawar Math at 7:20 pm.
A felicitation ceremony will be held to felicitate Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji at Car Street at 7:30 pm. The Swamiji will be felicitated by the Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC), Paryaya Reception Committee and other organisations.
A bike rally with 400 motorbikes and performance by 55 folk art teams will mark Swamiji’s Pura Pravesha ceremony. About 3,000 people are expected to take part in the function. The ‘Hore Kanike’ procession will be held every day in the evening from January 5. The “Hore Kanike” (offerings to the next Paryaya Math) from different places of the district and neighbouring districts would pour in from January 5 to 16, he added.
Udupi district minister in-charge Vinay Kumar Sorake, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje, Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj, President of Udupi CMC Yuvaraj, will participate in the felicitation programme. Sri Vidyavallabha Tirtha Swamiji of Paryaya Kaniyur Math, will preside over the civic reception function. Vishwaprasanna Tirtha, junior Swamiji of Pejawar Math, will grace the occasion.
Cultural programmes would be held at Car Street from January 4 to January 17. A civic felicitation for Sri Vidyavallabha Tirtha Swamiji of Parayaya Kaniyur Math would be held at Car Street at 7.30 p.m. on January 17.
The Paryaya festival will be held on January 18. The Paryaya procession will begin from Jodu Katte at 2:30 a.m. Sri Vishwesha Tirtha Swamiji will ascend the Paryaya Peetha at 5:40 a.m. The Paryaya Darbar programme will be held at Rajangana at 6:20 a.m.
The Maha Puja will be held at 10:20 a.m. and the Maha Annasantharpane at 11:30 a.m. The Three Chariot Festival will be held at 7:30 p.m. on the same day, he added.
