Udupi: The Bharathiya Janatha Party Kaup Constituency Workers Convention was held in the city here on Sunday, April 19.

The programme began with an invocation. Kuilady Suresh Nayak, president of Kaup Block, welcomed the gathering. Later, he officially welcomed entrepreneur Gurme Suresh Shetty, who recently enrolled in the party, by handing him the party flag.

Addressing the gathering, C T Ravi (MLA, Chikkamagaluru Constituency) said that the state Congress government has intentionally neglected the popular development schemes which were started during the BJP tenure. CM Siddaramaiah has neglected useful schemes like Suvarnabhoomi, Suvarnagrama, Pradhanmantri Gram Sadak Yojna, Ganga Kalyana and Bhagyalaxmi schemes. “We had released funds for Suvarnabhoomi scheme, but nothing has been done during the Congress tenure. The popular Bhagyalaxmi scheme has also been cornered by the Congress government. Congress is playing politics in development work. The Congress government is losing its popularity day-by-day and has also failed in developing the state. BJP has very good chances of winning in the coming election,” he said.

Addressing the gathering, B S Yeddyurappa slammed Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi for misleading farmers. He made an appeal to the community to not get misguided by rumours against the NDA government’s land acquisition ordinance and other policies. Modi-led NDA government is committed to improve the lives of the farmers, who have become hopeless because of Congress’ rule and its faulty policies,” he said.

“The NDA government is making all efforts to save farmers from taking extreme steps like committing suicide. The NDA government is framing up new policies which will be totally farmer friendly. Narendra Modi’s government has changed the assessment of crop loss from the previous 50 per cent to 33 per cent; so now, farmers who have suffered a crop loss of 33 per cent will be eligible for crop compensation,” he added.

Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje, MLA Sunil Kumar, former MLA Lalaji R Mendon, Vasanth V Salin, MLC’s Capt Ganesh Karnik, Kota Srinivas Poojary, District BJP Chief Thingale Vikaramarjuna Hegde, former chief Uday Kumar Shetty, State secretary Shymala Kundar, Kuthyaru Naveen Shetty, Githanjali Suvarna and others were present.

Sri. Yeddyurappa, glad to hear your statement after a very long time. You deserve all the honors as the architect of the BJP in Karnataka but missed you seeing you at the front row in the recent BJP national leadership meetings.
