Though armed only with rifles, ten policemen were killed and nine captured by the Chinese troops. Since then, the day marks the sacrifices of the police personnel in the country.

A total of 434 personnel have lost their lives while on duty from July 2014 to August 2014. This includes 108 in Uttar Pradesh, 14 Andra Pradesh, 6 Assam, 37 in Chhattisgarh, 7 in Delhi, 24 in Jammu & Kashmir, 11 Jarkhand, 1 in Rajasthan and Kerala, 11 in Madhya Pradesh, 10 in Maharashtra, 3 in Manipur, 7 Meghalaya, 2 in Orissa, Haryana and Nagaland, 4 in Punjab and Telangana, 6 in Uttarakand, 23 in West Bengal; 47 from BSF, 8 from CISF, 31 from CRPF, 9 from ITBP, 9 from RPF, 22 from SSB. In Karnataka, 11 cops have lost their lives while on duty, 4 of them being from Udupi district, he said.

In his message, Dr Vishal said that a society without police is unimaginable as it will be a land of chaos and anarchy. Police are an integral part of the peace keeping force. These unsung heroes play a significant role at any given time offering round the clock service. It was known that police personnel face severe pressure while performing their duties. “Not only must we salute cops for their work, we must also ensure that they get support and other benefits. Just as a farmer is important to our nation, police are also one of the most precious to the nation,” he added.

Additional SP Santhosh Kumar, DySP Karkala Suman Varnekar, DySP Kundapur Jagadish Shetty, former DySP Dr Prabhudeva Mane and others were present.

I have read plenty of non-fictional stuff on various issues, had the privilege to speak to knowledgeable people who told me how the governments in India work and why corruption cannot be eliminated and totally stamped out of India and this matter has been further aggravated because people do not unite and take the governments, bureaucrats… Read more »
