Udupi SP Vishnuvardhan warns of stern action against fake news over COVID-19
Udupi: The Udupi district superintendent of Police N Vishnuvardhan on Thursday, March 19, warned rumour-mongers of strict action against spreading fake news on social media over the novel coronavirus. We have given instructions to the police officers of police stations within its jurisdiction in this connection.
SP Vishnuvardhan speaking to the media persons at the DC office, Manipal said, “Strict action will be taken against those spreading fake news. We will not take such things lightly. This is an emergency situation and spreading false or unverified news can lead to panic among the people. The cyber cell of the district Police is keeping a vigil on the Internet to curb any attempt to spread dissemination of fake information over COVID-19”.
The district administration has prohibited all types of group tours in the district as part of steps to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The district administration has clamped Section 144(3) in the district to prevent the gathering of people. Section 144(3) has been clamped as a precautionary measure, people should follow the orders. Those who violate the order will be punished, he said.
