Udupi SP Warns of Libel Case against Those Levelling False Charges
Udupi: Savitri Bhat and her two children had convened a media meet at the Press Club here on April 18. They had alleged that the district’s superintendent of police had behaved arrogantly with the senior woman during her visit to his office.
The SP has issued a clarification in the matter on the police website and also issued a warning to those making false allegations.
He has stressed that whoever visited his office, especially senior citizens, were being treated with respect.
The allegation that he had behaved in a high-handed manner with the family was false, he stated categorically. He has further said that in accordance with the Kundapur assistant commissioner’s directive, the house bearing no. 8-3-50 had been vacated and allotted to Savitri Bhat.
He has pointed out that circle inspector Shrikant had already affixed a note on the relevant papers that the house would be vacated if an order from the AC was received.
The SP has warned that whoever levels charges against him or his department without proper basis or proof will have to face a defamation case.
Welcome to new north korea!! What proof is he talking about ? Nobody walks around with a video camera in hand. If he has the proof in the form of video (probably captured in security camera in his office), he should go ahead and release it to show that there wasn’t any inappropriate behavior from his side. Threatening regular citizens doesn’t look good.
