Udupi: St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady in association with Taikwando Association Udupi, organized a workshop to create awareness among the students about the importance of self defense through various martial arts.
The programme was organized under the British Council India’s ‘International School Award’ Project and intended to promote a sense of internationalism through a comparative study. The self defense techniques of karate, judo, and Taikwando were introduced to students through demonstration to help them to understand the similarities and differences between the various techniques used.
Sandeep Rai the president of Udupi District Taikwando Association, Rajshekar secretary, state and the national level medal winners Dayanand, Rahul, Yashwanth and Jasmine were the resource persons who enlightened the students.
Addressing the students during the introductory speech Sandeep Rai said “Martial arts should be used only for peace and self defense and not for violence”.
More than 250 students benefited from the workshop. It had been organized by the Principal Myrtle L F Lewis Roopa Ashok The ISA coordinator welcomed and delivered the vote of thanks.
