Udupi: The Annual Eucharistic procession of the diocese was held at the Mother of Sorrows Church here, on November 22.
The solemn Eucharistic Mass was offered by the Bishop of Udupi Diocese, Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo at the Church ground along with other diocesan priests at 4:00 pm.
November 22 marks the Feast of Christ the Universal King and is celebrated in Catholic churches all over the world. It is customary to have this Eucharistic procession in the churches. During this event, blessings of the Lord are sought for peace, harmony and prosperity for all in the world.
In his homily, Fr Anil Prakash Castelino, Assistant Parish Priest of Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva said that the Eucharist has great strength that nourishes the church in general and the individual faithful in particular.
After the Eucharistic Mass, the grand Eucharistic procession was led by the Brass band, followed by the Cross and devotees. At the end of the procession, the Bishop carried the Blessed Sacrament on a decorated vehicle. The procession passed via Government PU College Road – Ajjarkad Park Road – Jodukatte Circle – Old Taluk Office Road – Court Road – Diana Circle and culminated at the Church ground. Thousands of devotees including priests, nuns and the laity took part in the procession.
PRO of Udupi Diocese Fr Denis D’Sa announced the names of parishes which made the highest collections for Udupi diocese on Mission Sunday. The Bishop gave away trophies to those parishes who had highest total collection and highest per head collection on the Mission Sunday.The highest collection were First – Moodubelle, Second – Udupi and Third – Karkla – Auttur.
Among the parishes that had maximum per head collection were:Firts – Nakre, Second – Kuntalanagar and Third – Udupi.
Chancellor Fr Valerian Mendonca, Udupi Church parish priest Fr Fred Mascarenhas, Fr Anil D’Souza of Kundapur Deanery and Fr Stany B Lobo of Kallianpur Deanery were present.
