Udupi to host State Junior Handball Championship from Jan 18-20
Udupi: The Udupi district Handball association is conducting the 17th State Junior Hand Ball Championship (Boys & Girls) Under Karnataka Hand Ball Association at the Mahatma Gandhi Bayalu Rangamandira Beedinagudde, Udupi from January 18 to 20 said Alevoor Harish Kini president of Association
Speaking at a press meet held at the press club on Friday, January 11 he said, “The objective of the event is to promote and encourage sports and games in rural areas. Around 24 boys and 16 girls’ teams are taking part in the championship. Each team will consist of 18 members (16 players and 2 officials). The first three winning teams in the Boys and girls section will be given individual prizes and trophies. 800 sports persons and 30 officials from various parts of the state are expected to participate in the championship. Arrangements such as accommodation and food are being made for the participants”.
He further said, “Rajya Sabha member Oscar Fernandes will inaugurate the Championship, while Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat will inaugurate the ground. Former minister Pramod Madhwaraj, Udupi ZP president Dinakar Babu and others will be the chief guests. The Prize distribution will be held on January 20.
Udupi district Handball association secretary Seetharama Gowda, Treasurer Nirupama Shetty, Vice president Sudarshan Nayak, Organizing Secretary Rohit R Devadiga were present in the press meet.
