Dr Pushpa Kini, a well-known doctor of Manipal, delivered a talk on “Konkani Women and Health”. She said, “If you educate a girl, you are educating the entire family. Educating girls is the need of the hour because when a woman is educated, she will educate the entire family and she will teach her children to be disciplined”. She further said that nowadays children are attracted towards junk food. “Junk food does nothing but leads to diseases. Children do not like the food which is cooked at home. They would rather eat fast food in hotels. Our stomach is not a garbage dump; we have to think before we consume junk food,” she added.

She also said that there are two types of women, home makers and working women. “A home makers is always taken for granted. She has to cook for the entire family and she works from morning till night. Working class women do not get time to spend with their children. They go to work, come back home and cook for their family; in that process, they do not get time for their children. Working women should also think of their children and spend quality time with them. Everyday exercise is a must to stay fit. Parents should encourage their children to exercise everyday for 10 to 15 minutes as this keeps the children physically fit.”

Woman entrepreneur Chandramathi S Rao spoke on “Konkani Women – Entrepreneurship” and Advocate Mary Fernandes delivered a talk on “Konkani Women and Law” respectively. Veronica Cornelio, Chairperson of KSDL, spoke on the occasion and congratulated the organizers for the unique programme which has brought the women from Konkani community together.

President of the two-day convention Padma Shenoy, Gayathri A Pai, Laxmi S Rao working president, Shruthi G Shenoy General Secretary, Shailaja M Pai, Kasargod Chinna and others were also present.
