Udupi: Yenagudde Rohit Hegde is Assistant Commissioner of Mumbai Customs

Udupi: Y Rohit Hegde, son of Yenagudde Doddamane Chittaranjandas Hegde and Sanoorguttu Tara C Hegde couple, has been promoted to the grade of assistant commissioner of customs, Mumbai by the government of Maharashtra.

He had his primary and secondary education at Poornaprajna school in Admar and obtained a degree from Govindadasa College, Suratkal.

Being a dedicated athlete, he has been a national champion in 400 metres sprint and had also won recognition in world 800 metres run. This enabled him to land a job in the department of customs as a preventive officer to begin with, under sports quota in 1980.

In recognition of his efficiency and dedication at work, he was promoted to the grade of superintendent in 1997. He also won the Chhatrapati Shivaji award from the government of Maharashtra.

On the social front, he has been serving as president of Katapadi Beedu Kambala committee and has headed the management and renovation committees at a few temples.
