Udyavar Residents Protest against Industrial Zone, Panchayat Scraps Application

Udupi: The application filed for the industrial zone was scrapped following the ire of the people of Udyavar on Saturday, June 3.

Three persons had approached the Udyavar panchayat for the creation of an industrial zone in Udyavar. The application was approved amid heated arguments. People of Udyavar then staged a protest amid speculations of a fish meal heading the industrial zone in Pithrodi, Udyavar.

The gram panchayat members faced the ire of the people. People also alleged that members had received kickbacks from the fish meal owners. The panchayat had later had called for a special general body meeting.

Twenty-seven members out of the 28 were present at the meeting, the members later decided to scrap the application following the protest from the people.

Scores of people who had gathered near the panchayat premises dispersed after the applications for creating the Industrial Zone was scrapped.
