‘UK Woman’ Cheats ‘DK Man’ of Rs 11.39 Lac with False Marriage Promise
Mangaluru: According to police reports, a 35-year-old man named John Pinto (name changed) hailing from Kinnigoli-DK had filed a complaint with Kinnigoli Police of being cheated of Rs 11.39 lakh after he had followed instructions of a UK-based woman, who had agreed to marry him. The cyber crime police said that the 35-year-old man had posted his details on a matrimonial website.
In response to his advt Stella Moris, a UK-based citizen, sent a message through Whatsapp to the complainant agreeing to marry him. She asked him to come down to England where she offered to get him a job. John Pinto contacted one Michael Antony and paid him Rs 26,560 as visa charges and paid another man named James Baven Rs 83,000 for the anti-terrorist certificate. In all, the complainant had transferred to Ms. Stella and two others a sum of Rs 11,39,535 on various dates in the last few days, the police said.
On Monday, the complainant filed a complaint of cheating with the cyber crime police. The police have registered a case of cheating and are investigating it.
