ULB elections: 31.14% polling in Udupi District till 11 am

Udupi: By 11:00 am, the Udupi district recorded a voter turnout of 31.14 percent for the Urban Local Body elections.

The percentage of voting till 11:00 am in each urban local body was as follows: Udupi CMC 30.04, Kundapur TMC -29.37, Karkala TMC – 34.29 and Saligrama Town Panchayat 37.64 percent.

Former Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake along with his wife cast their votes at the Girls PU College in Udupi while another former minister Pramod Madhwaraj and his mother former minister and former MP Manorama Madhwaraj cast their votes at the Gandhi Hr. Pr. School Malpe. Udupi Diocese Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo cast his vote at the TMA Pai Modern School Kadabettu.

After casting the vote Pramod Madhwaraj said that due to the false allegations against the Congress government and other issues, the Congress failed to get a majority in the 2018-Assembly elections. After the Assembly elections, the people of Udupi are fed up with the present peoples’ representatives. I hope, in this election, the Congress party will win the maximum number of seats in the Udupi CMC. I have not taken the Udupi CMC elections as a challenge because we are the servants of the people. People will decide for themselves and chose the right persons as their leaders. The people of Udupi have rejected me in the Assembly elections, ultimately it is people’s mandate, he said.

Voting for Urban Local Body Begins in Udupi District

Udupi: Voting for the local body elections across the Udupi district began in a smooth way on August 31.

Polls will be held in four urban local bodies in the Udupi district — Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC), Kundapur Town Municipal Council (TMC), Karkala Town Municipal Council (TMC) and Saligrama Town Panchayat.

The four urban local bodies in the district have a total of 97 wards of which 35 wards are in Udupi CMC, 16 in Saligrama Town Panchayat, 23 in Karkala Town Municipal Council and 23 wards in Kundapur Town Municipal Council.

There are 1,55,336 voters, including 98,500 in Udupi City Municipal Council, 13,201 in Saligrama Town Panchayat, 20,471 in Karkala Town Municipal Council and 23,164 in Kundapur Town Municipal Council jurisdictions.

There 99 polling booths in Udupi City Municipal Council, 16 in Saligrama Town Panchayat, 23 in Karkala Town Municipal Council and 23 booths in Kundapur Town Municipal Council.

There are 37 sensitive and 62 normal polling booths in Udupi City Municipal Council, two hypersensitive, 13 sensitive and one normal polling booth in Saligrama Town Panchayat, 23 normal polling booths in Karkala Town Municipal Council and five sensitive and 18 normal in Kundapur Town Municipal Council respectively.

The counting of votes and the results will be declared on September 3.
