Ullal Civic Official Gets Own Borewell Drilled Overnight!
Mangaluru: In view of water scarcity, the deputy commissioner has, through a recent order, banned drilling of fresh borewells in the district.
The bureaucracy could be under the impression that law was applicable only to the common people and not to them.
Roopa Shetty, the chief officer of the Ullal municipal council, who lives near the Prabhat cinema in the heart of the city, had been reportedly facing water problems.
To overcome this crisis, she got a rigging firm to drill a borewell in the middle of the road on late Saturday night, in blatant violation of the DC’s order.
DC AB Ibrahim, who received the information, paid a surprise visit to the spot around 11-30 pm and ordered that the work be instantaneously stopped and the lorry and the rig be seized.
The DC is likely to take serious action against the official for the violation as well as a bad example set.
