Ullal Official Denies Hand in Borewell Episode, Decries False Propaganda
Mangaluru: Ullal city municipal council commissioner Roopa Shetty has categorically stated that she had no role in the drilling of a borewell near Prabhat movie-house when there was a ban in force.
She points out that she is only one of the fifty-plus owners of the apartment condominium located near Prabhat. All the residents were facing scarcity of water over the past two months.
The building society had felt the need of a new borewell and had commissioned a contractor to drill it and the team had begun the job in the night on Saturday.
In fact, she was in Ullal at the time to attend the Abbakka Utsava. When she returned home around 9 pm, she observed the work going on. She called up the MCC commissioner immediately and sought his advice. He told her about a ban being in force as ordered by the deputy commissioner. Hence, she got the work stopped.
She has also said that she was not the owner of the condominium but of only a single apartment. Sheis not even an office-bearer of the society. Hence, it was a totally false report that she had got a borewell drilled for personal use.
Neighbours said that the persons who engaged the borewell firm could be trying to legitimize their act and save the situation by passing the buck to a municipal official.
It is also possible that a malicious propaganda has been let loose as a revenge act, as she has acted firmly against violations in and around Ullal.
