Undertrial Prisoner Commits Suicide at Wenlock Hospital
Mangaluru: An undertrial prisoner committed suicide by hanging himself while he was in Judicial Custody at the Government Wenlock Hospital here on May 6.
The deceased has been identified as Muhammad Naufal from Kerala.
Mohammad Naufal has been in judicial custody in Konaje PS under Crime Number 109/2022 since 26 December 2022. He was admitted to the Wenlock Hospital jail ward several times due to depression. On April 25 he was again admitted to the Wenlock hospital.
On May 6 while being in the ward under judicial custody, along with other inmates, he committed suicide by hanging himself during the early hours. All efforts were made to save him by the guards on duty and paramedical staff, however he breathed his last.
A case has been registered in this regard at the South Police station. Further process as per legal procedure in such cases is being carried out.
