Underworld Don Bannanje Raja’s mother Cremated in Son’s presence
Udupi: The body of Vilasini Shettigar (78), mother of jailed Underworld Don Bannanje Raja, was laid to rest at Malpe here after a large number of people paid their last respect.
Bannanje Raja’s mother Vilasini Shettigar (78), a retired teacher passed away on August 25, reportedly of injuries that she sustained after having slipped and fallen at her residence.
The body of Vilasini Shettigar was brought to her house at Kalmady from the District Hospital Mortuary. Her Son Underworld Don Bannanje Raja paid his last respect to his mother. Later the body was taken in a vehicle procession from her house to the Cremation center Malpe. Bannanje Raja lit the funeral pyre amidst the chanting of Vedic hymns.
Those who attended the final rites included Bannanje Raja’s father and his brother.
After the death of Vilasini Shettigar, Advocate Shantaram Shetty filed a petition in the residence of District and Sessions Judge Venkatesh T Nayaka to allow Bannanje Raja to participate in the funeral of his mother. The judge, who had reviewed the application, granted permission to Bannanje Raja to attend to his mother’s funeral. The Udupi police brought Bannanje Raja to Udupi Town Police station amid tight police security on the wee hours of Monday, August 27 from Hindalga jail in Belgaum.
On Monday morning Raja was taken to his house where he paid his last respect to his mother. Later he was taken amid tight police security to the Crematorium. After the cremation, he was taken to his house where he is allowed to remain till 6:00 pm. Later, he will be brought back to the Udupi Town Police station and taken to Belagavi prison on Tuesday, August 28 morning.
