Uninterrupted Water supply to City from Now on – Mayor Kavitha
Mangaluru: “I am very happy to announce that from today onwards there will be continuous water supply to Mangaluru City Corporation limits. We had started rationing the supply of water from March 20, 2017, and people of Mangaluru have co-operated well with the MCC. I am very thankful to all the citizen’s of Mangaluru for their co-operation during the critical period in the supply of water,” said the Mayor of MCC Kavitha Sanil in a press meet held at her chamber here on April 26.
Addressing the mediapersons Kavitha Sanil said, “At present, there is 4.42 meters of water in the Thumbay dam and 4.40 meters of water at the AMR Dam. We have started pumping water from the AMR dam to the Thumbay dam. Tonight the water level in the Thumbay dam will rise to 5 meters. When we started to supply water 3 days on and 2 days off, people of Mangaluru have co-operated well. I am happy that we have successfully retained enough water that will be supplied uninterrupted from now on. The month of May is critical, during this month every year people face scarcity of water but this year by the grace of God people will not face any scarcity of water. We have retained enough water which will be supplied uninterrupted from now on.”
Kavitha further said, “When I went to Suratkal I found water bills including those of industries of huge amounts still pending. Water bills worth Rs 5.25 crore from wards 1 to 11 are pending from the past two years. From Mulky Town Rs 76.56 Lakhs, Chelar Rs 5.05 Lakh, Bala Rs 1 lakh and Ullal Rs 50 lakh are pending to be paid. I request all the people of those wards to cooperate and clear the pending water bills.
MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazir, Former Mayor Sashidhar Hegde, Deputy Mayor Rajaneesh and Sabitha Misquith were also present.
